Inner Child Healing
Expressive art therapy is a powerful tool for healing the inner child, as it speaks the language of our younger selves. Sometimes, healing can be as simple as revisiting activities we loved as children, transporting us back to carefree, joyful moments. The aim of inner child work is to reparent ourselves and become that caring and accepting parent we needed.
Creativity and the inner child go hand-in-hand; engaging in one often awakens the other. Play, arts, and crafts aren't just for kids—they can help us tap into our playful, spontaneous, and imaginative selves, reconnecting us with a child-like sense of wonder. Art provides a symbolic language to express complex emotions and experiences related to the inner child.
Research shows that 30% of PTSD patients don't respond to traditional treatments, but art therapy offers great promise. By embracing our imaginative side, we can overcome blocks that prevent us from accessing repressed or dissociated parts of our subconscious. Engaging in activities like working with air-dry clay or spontaneous doodling can help us connect with the wonder, curiosity, and joy of our inner child.
